By tradition, Japanese Gosho Dolls represent chubby, almost naked little boys with large heads, round bodies and brilliant white skin. They generally show an originality and character which places them in a special category of Japanese dolls.
Rare on this theme this Japanese Gosho doll from the Kaga region of Japan, portrays a child performing Japanese epic hero BENKEI warrior monk. The boy holds a spear in his hand and has a sword attached to his  silk brocaded red-golden colored apron with red cords.  Facial features are well modeled and delicately hand painted, and tufts of his hair fall from each side of the boy's faces. Small black lacquered hat  - traditional headdress and symbol of Yamabushi Buddhist sect of warrior-monks  on the boy's head and wooden bag with Buddhist manuscripts attached on his back with violet cords. The boy stands raising his right hand with open palm.  This doll is a masterpiece of Kozan, famous doll's maker. Wooden box with artist name come with.
Dimensions: 12 cm / 4,7 inches high
Condition: very good  overall according to age, with small  almost invisible yellowish stains on doll's head and leg
