Japanese antique doll of a young Noble Lady with long hair,
1920's
Antique Japanese
doll represents young noble lady dressed in ivory
color silk brocaded kimono with silver tread and black silk
crepe upper kimono with silk-stitch hand-embroidered
Paulownia blossoms and chrysanthemum flowers motif.
Paulownia also known as the "princess tree". It was
once customary to plant a Paulownia tree when a baby girl
was born in a noble family, and then to make it into a dresser
as a wedding present when she married. Paulownia also is
the family mon or crest for Tokugawa and related
samurai family clan and also serves as the emblem of the
government.
Her kimono's sleeves thrown off to reveal figured silk her
under kimono. Orange colored silk brocade obi tied in Nagoya's
way in one simple bow.
Doll's face carved of wood and covered in a highly burnished
gofun and hand-painted artistically. Her long black hair
dressed in Nagoya style embellished with ribbon and two
long hair-pins.
The doll crafted about 1920's,
