Japanese Young Samurai Doll with arrows and bow in
his hands, 1950's
Lovely Japanese traditional doll of a young boy from the
upper class, dressed with rich ceremonial attire: silk
kimono with geometrical pattern and blue kamishimo with
long pants. He holds two arrows and a bow in his hands
as he participates in the ceremony
MEIGEN or The Sound of the Bowstring
which is performed upon reaching seven years of a
boy from the noble clan. This ceremony means the boy
will become brave and honest. Boy's face is solemn
emotional and impressionable.
The doll was made in Kyoto about 1960's. The artist
called his work MEIGEN.
